I'm pregnant and would like to schedule a maternity session. When is the best time to do so?
I recommend around the 7th or 8th month, but really, it should be whenever you feel most comfortable. I strongly urge you to schedule your session well in advance in order to insure that our schedules will match up.
What should I wear if I'm pregnant?
Wear something that makes you feel beautiful and radiant, and most importantly, comfortable. Feel free to bring a few different outfits so we can try different looks throughout the session. Try to also keep in mind that we want to show off your baby belly. Solid-color shirts or tank tops look great with jeans, and long skirts or dresses are always a lovely choice.
What should my child wear?
Dress your child in something he/she is comfortable in. Solid colors and minimal patterns are always a good choice, but big logos, words or images on shirts can be distracting.
Should we all wear matching colors?
This is completely up to you! I personally love a mix of styles in coordinating colors, but the most important thing is that you’re wearing something that feels like you. If you’re looking for some outfit inspiration, Pinterest is a great source. I find that it can be helpful to lay everyone’s outfits out on the floor so you can imagine how you might all look standing together. When in doubt, neutral colors are always a great choice.
What should I bring to my session?
Wet wipes, snacks, extra diapers, a comb or anything else you might need to keep everyone looking and feeling good. Props are always a fun way to add flair to your photos, but are absolutely not necessary. A prop can be a costume, the family pet, a special lovey...Anything meaningful to you or your kids! We can discuss this more after you book your session.
Can we do our session at home?
Most definitely! Home sessions are especially great for newborns and babies. It’s also a nice way to show a little bit more of your family’s unique style. Plus, who isn't more comfortable at home? If your little ones are a bit camera-shy, this is something you might want to consider.
So do I have to clean my whole house? I don't have time for that!
That’s up to you! For regular family photo sessions, I recommend having at least a couple of rooms looking “photo ready” by simply putting away any distracting objects or things that you don't want photographed. So just a quick sweep through to declutter a little bit should be enough. This will help the session to move along quicker and more smoothly. For newborn and baby photos, I often use the master bed as a prop. The living room and baby’s nursery are also favorite spots.
If you're doing a Day in the Life session, I encourage you to leave everything right where it is. I'm looking to capture the average day chez vous in all its glory. :)
